Interior design and furnishings for a house in Sciez (74), on the shores of Lake Geneva

The private Coudrée estate, located in the municipality of Sciez in Haute-Savoie, on the shores of Lake Geneva, is a truly enchanting place. It takes its name from its medieval castle and the calm waters of the Gulf of Coudrée. Surrounded by lush, picturesque landscapes, the estate is a genuine haven of peace—ideal for designing a holiday home.

A masterly staircase

On level 1 of the first house, the one favored by the owners, is the entrance hall opening onto the living room and staircase. “We entrusted its construction to a company that does just that. The staircase is atypical in its overall shape, with a step, a balustrade and a quarter-turn. Its colors combine wood and black. The staircase is dominated by a false fabric ceiling stretched in black, from which a ball suspension lights the way up. The stairwell leads to a corridor providing access to the outdoor terrace and bedrooms.

According to the wishes of the owner and the interior designer in charge of the project, the three rooms on level 2 represent three different worlds.

The first is in blue tones. A glass window offers a view of the lake, which can be contemplated from a specially-designed bench. Lots of light and adjustable sunshades accentuate its “Cap Code” image.

One house… and two!

The project began with a timber-frame “double house” built by Grosset Janin, a well-known builder from Haute-Savoie. In 2021, the two buildings, linked by a large corridor, were finally sold to an entrepreneurial couple, who entrusted the layout, interior design and choice of furnishings to Agence Amevet.

“At the start of the adventure, we’re in a timber-frame house with a post-and-beam structure and a 4-slope roof… It’s made up of two independent buildings on two levels, connected by a large airlock,” explains Pierre François Amevet.

Three rooms, three worlds

The second bedroom is in very light wood, with a custom-made rounded headboard and integrated sockets and light switch. “Just like a hotel,” continues Pierre François Amevet. “The owners wanted their home to be easy to live in. When you arrive, you don’t necessarily have a lot of time… You have to be able to open your suitcase and immediately take advantage of your free time. So everything had to be intuitive…”

The third bedroom is “so british”, or rather “so scottish”, with tartans on the wall and a wooden headboard covered in cinnamon leather.

“The three rooms are different, but have several things in common. A contemporary, uncluttered style. The search for contrast, with a dominant dark color systematically warmed by another. Linen, cupboards with padded doors, black bathrooms… “

A living room of almost 100 m2

Adjoining the bedroom and open on one side to the entrance hall and on the other to the dining room, the living room has been designed to welcome a family or a group of twelve people in the most comfortable conditions.

The TV screen, discreetly leaning against the staircase, turns its back to the natural light. In a corner, a discreet fireplace has been installed for off-season flames. Armchairs and a large, rounded corner sofa invite you to relax.

The black-painted walls, accented with rust, create an atmosphere of contrast between night and fire, accentuated by particularly effective lighting.

A walk-through master bedroom

Back on the first floor, the first feature is a large, full-length bedroom. Headboard made from a special woollen fabric, parquet flooring, dressing room open to the bedroom, paneled and padded closet doors, separate toilet…

“The owners’ bedroom is also in a sober, contemporary style. It is characterized by a transparent bathroom, widely open to the bedroom and to the outside garden, with a water point in the middle of the room…”

A custom-made wooden table

There’s no transition between the living room and the dining room, where a large bay window looks out onto the garden and pool.

The wooden table, which seats twelve, was custom-made. It is illuminated by a suspension lamp, the work of an Italian designer. Around it, chairs upholstered in bright green velvet provide contrast.

An independent second home

This was the owners’ wish: to be able, when necessary, to provide their guests with a small, self-contained house, directly accessible via an outside staircase. Or rather an apartment, located on level 2 of the second building, level 1 being occupied by two garages.

There’s a kitchen and two similar bedrooms, in a style inspired by the rooms in the first house, with a large shared bathroom.

Perfectly veined granite

An extension of the dining room, the extremely well finished kitchen is a real gem. Behind the central island, the rear cabinet features two lateral elements: hot on the right, cold on the left. Between these two elements, the cooktop and the inverted hood.

But what really stands out is the omnipresence of granite, with its perfect veining. “The work on the stone is magnificent,” says Pierre-François Amevet, who has seen it all before!

The last space to occupy the interface between the two houses is a cellar, open to the kitchen and garden, from which you can admire the contents of the wine cellar. Behind the cellar wall, the boiler room.

Exceptional outdoor features

The highlight is the terrace, located between the two buildings, above the dining room, main kitchen and storeroom.

There’s a garden, Jacuzzi, summer kitchen and dining area with a large, weatherproof, convivial table.

And to conclude with the exterior, let’s not forget the splendid swimming pool in the garden, with overhangs and glazing, as well as the boules court, and so on.

A final word to Pierre-François Amevet: “The whole agency team is particularly proud of this contemporary project, which is sober, aesthetically pleasing, extremely functional and full of wonderful surprises, such as the main staircase, the granite in the kitchen, and the “hanging garden” on level 2.
