In Meribel, Agence Amevet’s interior architects executed the complete renovation of a historic chalet built in 1936. The interior layout of spaces was entirely revamped, beginning with the in-depth restructuring of all volumes in the chalet.
For the renovation of this chalet, especially the structural reworking, our interior architects managed the project in close observance of commonhold rules and in collaboration with a structural drawing office.
This chalet now has a contemporary style, without turning its back on natural and traditional materials—wood, stone, metal, glass—that adapt perfectly to the new decoration codes for mountain properties.
The most distinctive feature of this project is a unique, swirling stairway. A real work of art by a local craftsman, it conveys a strong identity statement in this chalet. Another, more anecdotal stairway, leading to a mezzanine, is made out of metal that looks as if it were simply folded into stair shapes.
The organization of volumes, the fluidity of spaces, and the use of soft tones add real serenity to the overall ambience of this chalet. This harmony is nonetheless spiced up with a few designer touches. Two Hay armchairs in acid colours add luminosity and cheerfulness. A feather-filled sofa with modern, rounded lines invites occupants to spend cosy moments by the fireside. A “Petite friture” hanging lamp provides a poetic note above a convivial, Scandinavian-style table. A lamp standard inspired by industrial designer Serge Mouille adds a sprinkle of retro. The decoration in this chalet also reveals a contribution from its owners: objects from Tibet fit in perfectly with the mountain decoration, inviting a little bit of spirituality into the home. As a final touch, the normal and picture windows are “dressed up” in Arpin fabrics made from pure virgin Savoy wool, providing “soft, natural colours and feels for relaxed well-being.”
The owners, speaking of the complete renovation of their chalet in Meribel. The project has been featured several times in the press as well as on television’s “La Maison” France 5 programme.
The owners: “An estate agent who knew Pierre-François Amevet and his team put us in touch. The agent had heard very good reports about his work and wanted to direct his clients toward a reliable professional. Our first contact with Pierre-François lasted 4 or 5 hours! He was available, responsive, an attentive listener—we dug right down to the bottom of things. Following this, the projects measured up fully to the expectations we had on leaving this first meeting. With his team, everything went smoothly. These people know who you are, give you answers, or if they aren’t available, call you or e-mail you back quickly. They are all very reassuring and always willing to go out of the way for you. The same applies to their craft contractors, who are very good and come back every time they are needed. The experience was so conclusive that we have entrusted Pierre-François Amevet and his team with a new project, in our main residence. »
